Google announces a tool allowing data portability from social networks. Facebook and Myspace quickly follow with their own releases. We expect to see something from Yahoo on this.
Opening Up:
Google and Facebook are releasing tools that allow users to transfer their data between social networking sites. Myspace first released a tool for this last week. Facebook quickly followed suit.
Salting the Web:
Google release friend connect. Can argue its a clear indicator of where they see social networking going. With data portability, users also get choice in terms of devices and mediums they use to interact. Expect to see Yahoo doing similar things. Facebook and Myspace are already releasing their own versions.
